The Light for All Nations: Epiphany Reflections

Monday 6th January 2025 – a day marked globally as Epiphany, the celebration of the wise men’s journey to worship Jesus and the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles. It’s a bit like that moment in a novel where the mystery unravels, except it’s the ultimate story of God unveiling salvation, not just for a select few, but for the entire world. Think about it: shepherds from nearby fields showing up at the manger at Christmas, and now, wise men from far-off lands kneeling before Jesus. He’s the King for everyone. No favourites, no exclusions. Isn’t that comforting? Because that means He’s for you, too.

The magi’s trek wasn’t a casual afternoon stroll. It was a serious commitment—possibly months or years of journeying based on nothing more than a mysterious star. Yet, they followed. They trusted. They were all in. What courage and expectancy must they have carried! It’s a gentle prod for us today: are we willing to follow the light of Christ, even when the journey feels long and uncertain?

Reflection Verse

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.” – Isaiah 60:1

Can I tell you something? The same light that guided the wise men now shines in your life through Jesus. It breaks through the darkness of doubt, fear, and insecurity, illuminating the path God has for you. Sometimes, it might feel like a dim candle in a stormy night—but trust me, it’s enough to keep you moving forward. Just like the star was enough for the magi.

A Moment to Reflect

Be honest for a second: What’s the star you’re following? Is it the Light of Jesus, or have you been unintentionally chasing lesser glimmers—career success, other people’s approval, or even your own plans? What would it look like today to pivot your gaze back toward Him, the true Light?

The beauty of Epiphany is that Jesus doesn’t play favourites. Whether you’re feeling close to Him or a million miles away, He is just as ready to reveal His grace and guidance to you. Isn’t that amazing? The magi remind us that no distance is too far, no journey too long, and no heart too foreign for Him to embrace.

Action Step

This week, carve out some time to reflect on what God’s light is calling you to do. Maybe it’s reaching out to someone with His love, taking that first step toward reconciliation, or trusting Him in a decision you’ve been hesitant about. Write it down, pray over it, and trust Him to guide every step—just as He guided the wise men long ago.

A Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Light that pierces every dark corner of my life. Thank You for revealing Yourself not just to one nation, but to the whole world—thank You for revealing Yourself to me. Help me not to lose sight of the star that points to You. Give me courage to follow, even when the way seems unclear. Guide my steps, Lord, and help me embrace Your light today and every day. Amen.
