Made in His Image: Celebrating God’s Masterpiece

Today, Tuesday 3rd December 2024, marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities—a day dedicated to celebrating the God-given value, dignity, and worth of every human being. As Christians, this day provides a beautiful reminder to see others the way Jesus does: as uniquely crafted masterpieces, fearfully and wonderfully made.

The world often measures worth based on abilities, productivity, or appearance. But God’s kingdom flips that upside down. Psalm 139:14 reminds us, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” It doesn’t say “some of your works” or “the most accomplished people.” No, it says all His works are wonderful—and that includes every single person.

Think about Jesus’ ministry for a moment. He didn’t gravitate towards the influential or the ‘perfect.’ He reached out to those society overlooked—the blind, the lame, those with leprosy, and many others. He not only saw them, but He also restored their dignity, healed their hearts, and brought hope. Essentially, He said, ‘You matter. I see you. And you are loved.’

Today, let’s consider how we view disability—both physical and unseen. Do we see it through society’s lens of limitations or through God’s lens of infinite value? Every person reflects a unique aspect of God’s image, and many of those with disabilities possess extraordinary gifts of compassion, creativity, and strength that showcase His glory. In fact, 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Where humans see weakness, God sees a platform for His power.

So, how can we embrace this truth today? Perhaps it’s as simple as reaching out to someone in your community with kindness and encouragement. Maybe it’s giving your time or resources to an organisation that supports persons with disabilities. Or perhaps it’s re-evaluating any assumptions you’ve unknowingly held and asking God to help you see people as He does: beloved.

Reflection Verse

Psalm 139:14 – “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

A Moment to Reflect

Are there individuals in your life who feel unseen or undervalued? How can you reflect God’s love to them today? Take a moment to ask God for His help in seeing others through His eyes.

Action Step

Today, reach out to someone who may need a reminder of their worth in Christ. Whether it’s a kind word, a conversation, or an act of service, let them know they are seen and valued.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that every person is fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image. Forgive us for the times we’ve overlooked or undervalued others. Give us the eyes of Christ so we can see the beauty and worth in each individual. May we be Your hands and feet today, bringing encouragement, love, and grace to those who need it. Teach us to celebrate the diversity within Your creation and honour those who reflect Your glory in unique and powerful ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
