Good morning! As we step into Saturday 28th September 2024, let’s pause to reflect on something rather interesting. While this day might not have a globally recognised event, it’s still quite special. Today is Ask a Stupid Question Day—a quirky celebration that encourages people to overcome the fear of asking questions, no matter how silly or insignificant they may seem. It’s meant to remind us that curiosity, however basic, leads to understanding. After all, don’t we all have moments where we’re unsure but too afraid to ask?
In many ways, this day can inspire us to think about our spiritual lives. How often do we hold back from seeking God’s wisdom because we’re afraid our questions seem too basic or unworthy? But Scripture tells us the opposite—God welcomes our questions.
God Welcomes Our Curiosity
There’s a fantastic verse in James 1:5 that gives us great confidence in this regard: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
What a powerful reminder! God doesn’t look at us and think, “That’s a silly question.” Instead, He invites us to bring our doubts, uncertainties, and even our most “basic” concerns to Him. There’s no question too small or too big for God. And the best part? He’s generous in His response. He doesn’t rebuke us for asking; rather, He encourages us to seek and grow in understanding.
The Bible is full of people who had questions—Moses, David, Mary, and even the disciples asked Jesus things that we might consider simple. Yet, God never turned them away. In fact, He used those questions as opportunities to teach them deeper truths.
Walking in the Light
This idea of asking and seeking aligns perfectly with Psalm 119:105, which says: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
God’s Word lights our way, but sometimes the road ahead still feels foggy, doesn’t it? That’s where asking questions and seeking guidance becomes so important. When we feel unsure or lost, we must turn to God’s Word and ask for the clarity we need to keep moving forward. Asking isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of wisdom.
Life throws us so many challenges and puzzles, but we’re not meant to stumble in the dark. God provides His light through the Bible and through the Holy Spirit, illuminating the path. If something seems unclear or confusing, ask God. He’s ready to light the way.
Reflection Question with Action Step
What’s something in your faith journey you’ve been too afraid to ask about?
Action Step: Take time today to write down any lingering questions you have about your faith or walk with God. Don’t dismiss them, no matter how trivial they may seem. Pray over these questions and ask God for wisdom. As you study Scripture, seek answers with an open heart, knowing that God generously offers clarity.
A Moment to Reflect with an Encouraging Action
On this Saturday 28th September 2024, let’s not shy away from seeking God’s wisdom. Just like we might laugh at the idea of asking a “stupid” question, remember there are no stupid questions in the Kingdom of God. James 1:5 reminds us that God loves to give us wisdom when we ask. So, go ahead—ask away, seek guidance, and trust that God will light your path.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who listens and answers, no matter how big or small our questions may be. Help us to have the courage to seek You and ask when we feel unsure, trusting that You will give us the wisdom we need. Lord, illuminate our paths as we walk through life, and let us always turn to Your Word when we need clarity. Guide our hearts and minds, so we may live confidently in Your truth. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
