Strength in New Beginnings

Good morning! Today is Tuesday 24th September 2024, and while there isn’t a major global event to mark this day, it’s still a significant one for many people—especially students. Across the UK, universities are starting their term this week, with freshers’ week and all its excitement well underway. The academic year is kicking off, which means a fresh start for thousands of young people embarking on new adventures, new challenges, and a lot of newness all around!

Fresh Starts, New Challenges

There’s something deeply refreshing about a new beginning. It could be a new job, a move to a different place, or, for some, stepping onto a university campus for the first time. These moments are filled with hope and opportunity, but let’s be honest—they can also be a bit overwhelming! Walking into the unknown can make us question if we have what it takes to handle the changes.

In times of uncertainty, we can take comfort in knowing that God walks with us through every new season of life. When Joshua was called to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land—a daunting task, to say the least—God reminded him of this powerful truth: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

Whether you’re stepping into a literal new place, like a university or a new job, or just facing a new chapter in life, God’s presence goes with you. He’s already in your future, and He’s holding your hand in the present.

Embracing the Journey

New beginnings are often where we see the most spiritual growth. There’s something about stepping out of our comfort zone that forces us to lean on God more fully. When everything is unfamiliar, when we don’t know what tomorrow looks like, that’s when our faith is really put to the test—and that’s when it has the greatest potential to grow.

Jesus Himself encourages us not to worry about what’s ahead. In Matthew 6:34, He says, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” It’s a reminder that our job isn’t to know all the answers or plan out every detail of the future. Our job is to trust God for today, believing He will provide for tomorrow.

Walking in Confidence

So how can we walk through new seasons with confidence rather than fear? By remembering that our strength comes from the Lord. Philippians 4:13 tells us, “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” We don’t have to face the unknown in our own power. God equips us for every new beginning, and His Spirit empowers us to overcome whatever challenges we may face.

As you move through this week, maybe you or someone you know is facing a fresh start—a student starting university, someone starting a new job, or even a personal transformation. Let this be a reminder that God is faithful in every season. He is always there, leading the way, giving strength, and offering peace.

A Moment to Reflect

If you find yourself at the start of something new or if change feels overwhelming right now, take a moment to pause and recognise that God’s hand is guiding you. He’s already prepared the path ahead.

Reflection Verse

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”Jeremiah 29:11

Reflection Question with an Action Step

What new beginning are you facing this week? How can you invite God into the unknown parts of your journey?
Action Step: Spend 5 minutes in prayer today, asking God to guide you through any new challenges. Write down one fear and release it to Him, trusting that He’s already in control.

Encouraging Action

This week, reach out to someone who is facing a new season—whether it’s a university student, someone starting a new job, or a friend going through a change. Offer them a word of encouragement and let them know you’re praying for them.
