Trusting in God’s Plan

Good morning, friends! Friday 20th September 2024—it’s not a well-known day in history, no grand events or holidays. But maybe that’s the point. Some days feel like they blend into the background, don’t they? It’s just another Friday. The weekend is nearly here, but today? Today feels ordinary. We live in a world that glorifies the extraordinary—big moments, huge accomplishments, and epic stories. But here’s the beauty of God’s plan: even in the most ordinary days, He is doing something extraordinary.

Think about the story of Joseph. If anyone had a run of “ordinary” days that were anything but, it was him! Sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused, and left to rot in prison, Joseph could have easily looked at his life and thought, “What is God doing?!” Yet, in the end, we see how God used even those mundane, difficult moments to prepare Joseph for something incredible. Genesis 50:20 says: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

God at Work in the Ordinary

Joseph’s story reminds us that God is always working, even when we can’t see it. Whether you’re feeling stuck in the daily grind, or just moving through an average Friday, God is still at work in your life. You might not be able to see the bigger picture right now, but trust that He is weaving every moment together for a purpose.

Often, we miss what God is doing because we’re so focused on waiting for that “big moment”—the promotion, the answered prayer, the breakthrough we’ve been longing for. But in reality, God shapes us in the quiet, everyday moments. The way we respond to the small frustrations, the mundane tasks, the moments no one else sees—these are the times when God is growing our character and preparing us for what lies ahead.

A Moment to Reflect

Have you ever felt like life is just a series of repetitive, ordinary days? Maybe today feels like one of those days. But here’s the truth: there is no “ordinary” in God’s plan. Every day, every moment, serves a purpose. Isaiah 64:4 tells us that God “acts on behalf of those who wait for Him”. Are you willing to trust that even on this seemingly ordinary Friday, God is moving behind the scenes?

Reflection Verse

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”Romans 8:28

Reflection Question with an Action Step

Where in your life do you feel like you’re waiting for something big to happen? Today, take a moment to reflect on where you might be missing God’s hand in the “ordinary.” Ask Him to show you how He is working in your current season. Instead of focusing on the next big thing, choose to find joy in today. God is present here, now, and is using today to shape you for what’s next.

Encouraging Action

As you go through today, thank God for the ordinary moments. Take a deep breath and appreciate the little things—the cup of tea, the walk in the park, the conversation with a friend. Ask God to help you see His fingerprints in the everyday and to grow your trust that His plan is unfolding, even when you can’t yet see the whole picture.
