Trusting God’s Timing

Good morning, friends! It’s Wednesday, 18th September 2024, and here we are in the middle of the week, where things tend to feel a bit… well, a bit wobbly, don’t they? Monday’s energy has faded, Friday still feels a mile away, and by now, we’re just trying to keep up. But there’s something special about today that gives us a great opportunity to pause and refocus.

On this day in 1970, Jimi Hendrix, widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists in history, passed away. Now, before you wonder where I’m going with this, stick with me! Hendrix, at his peak, seemed to have it all—talent, fame, and admiration. Yet his life was cut short, tragically at just 27. For all his success, his passing reminds us that even the most gifted and celebrated among us face the same human limitations. It’s a sobering thought, but it also invites us to consider something deeper: what are we doing with the time we’ve been given?

The Bible speaks a lot about time and how we should view it. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” It’s a reminder that our days here on earth are limited, but they have purpose. God doesn’t waste time, and neither should we.

But here’s the catch—God’s timing and ours often don’t match up. How many times have we prayed for something and felt like heaven’s voicemail was stuck on repeat? Yet, scripture consistently shows that God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our expectations. Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

In a world that glorifies hustle and speed, it’s easy to feel like we’re behind schedule if things aren’t happening as quickly as we’d like. But God’s not in a rush. He’s far more interested in our journey than in meeting deadlines. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” There’s a strength that comes from trusting God’s timing, knowing that He’s working even when we can’t see it.

Think of the story of Joseph in the Bible. God gave him a vision of leadership when he was young, but it took years—filled with betrayal, false accusations, and imprisonment—before that vision came to pass. Joseph had to trust God’s timing, even when it felt like everything was going wrong. When he finally stood as second-in-command of Egypt, he could see how God had been preparing him all along.

So, what does this mean for us today, on this seemingly ordinary Wednesday? It’s a call to trust in God’s timing. Whether we’re waiting for an answer to prayer, hoping for a breakthrough, or simply trying to make it to the weekend, let’s take comfort in knowing that God is in control. His timing is always better than ours, and His plans for us are good—Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us of that.

Maybe today is a good time to slow down, breathe deeply, and remind ourselves that we’re on God’s clock, not our own. We don’t need to have everything figured out by lunchtime (though wouldn’t that be nice?). Instead, let’s trust that God is weaving our story together, even in the moments when we feel like we’re stuck in a waiting room.

So, as you go through today, don’t rush. Be present. And know that God’s perfect timing is at work, even in the mundane moments of this midweek day.
