Good morning, beautiful church family!
Today is Sunday, 8th September 2024, and as you sip your morning tea (or maybe you’re already halfway through the biscuits), here’s something special about today: it’s International Literacy Day! Yes, today celebrates the ability to read and write—skills we often take for granted. Imagine where we’d be without words, especially the Word. I mean, have you ever tried to navigate life without instructions? It’s like trying to build IKEA furniture without the manual—utter chaos!
In many ways, the Bible is our manual, guiding us through the messiest moments, giving us wisdom, direction, and, of course, comfort. One of my favourite scriptures about the Word is from Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (NIVUK). It reminds us that, just like literacy opens doors to knowledge, God’s Word illuminates our journey. His wisdom is always there, giving us clarity when life gets a bit murky.
On a day like today, when the world is celebrating education and learning, let’s take a moment to be thankful for the Bible—the ultimate life guide! It’s not just about words on a page; it’s about the life-changing power of God’s voice speaking directly into our lives. Every verse is an invitation to know Him more deeply and to understand His will for us.
But here’s a funny thing about learning from the Bible: it’s not like cramming for an exam. It’s not about ticking off chapters or memorising verses to look ‘super spiritual.’ It’s about letting those words shape us, letting God speak to us through His living Word. As we open the Bible today, let’s pray that it truly becomes that “lamp” for our feet, guiding us step by step, day by day.
Reflection Verse: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures for ever.” —Isaiah 40:8 (NIVUK)
As we head into this new week, let’s be grateful for the privilege of having God’s Word so accessible, right in the palm of our hands (literally, thanks to our phones!). Let’s take a moment to dig deeper into scripture and allow God to speak to us, guide us, and light our way.
Have a blessed Sunday, and remember—God’s Word is always there to guide, comfort, and equip you, whether you’re reading it for the first time or the thousandth.
