Hello, lovely people!
It’s Saturday, 7th September—another glorious day the Lord has made, and there’s something quite special about today. On this day in 1533, Queen Elizabeth I was born, a monarch whose reign shaped the future of Britain. But here’s the thing: no one expected her to even become queen. She was third in line to the throne and had plenty of obstacles in her way. Yet, God had a plan for her life that was far bigger than anyone could have imagined.
Isn’t that how life often works? We make plans, draw up lists, and think we know how things will pan out, but sometimes God steps in with a plot twist. Proverbs 16:9 tells us, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps” (NIVUK). While we’re busy focusing on our path, God is often working behind the scenes, setting up something far greater than we could ever dream.
Take Joseph from the Old Testament, for example. He had his own expectations—dreams of greatness, which led to him being sold into slavery by his brothers (talk about sibling drama!). But through every setback, God was aligning Joseph’s journey with His purpose. Eventually, Joseph rose to power in Egypt, saving his family and an entire nation (Genesis 50:20). God’s plan for Joseph wasn’t just about his comfort; it was about something bigger—something with eternal significance.
So, what does that mean for us today? It’s a reminder that, just like Elizabeth I or Joseph, we might not always see where we’re headed, but God does. Sometimes, things won’t go as planned, and that’s okay. His plans are far better than ours, even when the route feels unexpected or a bit bumpy.
Reflection Verse: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” —Jeremiah 29:11 (NIVUK)
As we head into the weekend, let’s embrace the unexpected. Trust that God’s plans are in motion, and they’re better than anything we could imagine. Even when things feel out of control, He’s guiding every step.
