Trusting God in the Journey

Happy Friday, church fam!

Today is 6th September, and before you get too excited about the weekend ahead, let’s take a quick pause and reflect. Did you know that on this day in 1620, the Mayflower set sail from England, heading for the New World? The Pilgrims onboard were leaving everything familiar behind for a new life, trusting God to guide them to a place they had never been. Talk about a leap of faith!

Now, we’re not all boarding ships and crossing the Atlantic, but we do face our own “Mayflower moments,” don’t we? Times when God asks us to step out of the familiar and into the unknown. It could be a new job, a new city, or even a new season in life. And, just like those early Pilgrims, we might feel a bit seasick at the thought of what’s ahead.

But here’s the good news—God is with us on the journey. Just as He guided the Israelites through the wilderness with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night (Exodus 13:21), He will guide us through whatever unknowns we face. The journey may not be easy, and it might take longer than we expect (40 years in the desert, anyone?), but God is faithful.

Psalm 32:8 reminds us of this promise: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (NIVUK). We’re never walking alone, and God’s guidance isn’t just for the big decisions; it’s for the small, everyday moments too.

So, whether you’re stepping into something new or simply navigating your daily grind, remember this: God is steering your ship. You might not see the whole map, but you don’t have to—He’s got the compass.

Reflection Verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”—Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIVUK)

Today, let’s choose to trust Him, knowing that no matter how uncertain our journey feels, He’s already charted the course.
