Today is Tuesday 22nd October 2024, and on this day, we’re reminded of the importance of God’s timing in our lives. The past offers many examples of moments when waiting, patience, and trusting in the right time made all the difference. One significant event that happened on this day was in 1836, when Sam Houston was inaugurated as the first president of the Republic of Texas. The Texas Revolution was a long and difficult struggle, but the people persevered, and in God’s time, they saw victory.
It’s easy to become frustrated when things don’t happen as quickly as we’d like. We live in a world of instant gratification—next-day delivery, instant streaming, and answers just a Google search away. But life’s greatest victories often come through waiting on the Lord and trusting that His timing is perfect.
God’s Perfect Timing
In Ecclesiastes 3:1, we read: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” This verse reminds us that life unfolds according to God’s divine plan. There’s a time to plant, a time to harvest, a time to weep, and a time to laugh. Yet, in the midst of life’s busyness, we often find ourselves in a rush, wanting results immediately.
The journey of Sam Houston and the Texas Revolution teaches us that sometimes, the most critical moments come after a period of waiting and struggle. Houston didn’t become president overnight. It took years of preparation, battle, and perseverance. The same can be true for us. God is working in the waiting, shaping us for what’s to come, even when we can’t see it yet.
Learning to Wait on God
It’s natural to feel impatient. Perhaps you’re waiting for a breakthrough in your job, in your relationships, or in your faith. You may feel like God is silent, but know that He’s still working behind the scenes. Isaiah 40:31 offers a powerful reminder: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
God calls us to hope in Him, not in our own understanding or abilities. When we do this, He promises to renew our strength, allowing us to soar and rise above life’s challenges. Waiting on God doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means actively trusting Him, praying, and keeping our faith strong, even when the results aren’t immediate.

A Prayer for Today
Lord, we thank You that You are always working in our lives, even when we cannot see it. Help us to trust in Your timing and to remember that You have a perfect plan for us. Give us patience, strength, and hope in the waiting. May we rest in the assurance that You are guiding our steps, and that in Your time, everything will come together for good. We surrender our worries and impatience to You today, and we ask for Your peace to fill our hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
